How to use:
Verb (casual) + 一方(で)
Noun + である + 一方(で)
な-adjective + である + 一方(で)
い-adjective + 一方(で)
Example sentences:
1. 父は自分に厳しい一方で、他人には優しい。
chichi wa jibun ni kibishii ippou de, ta’nin niwa yasashii.
My father is very strict with himself but very kind to others.
2. 彼女の仕事は夏は非常に忙しい一方、冬は暇になる。
kanojo no shigoto wa natsu wa hijou ni isogashii ippou, fuyu wa hima ni naru.
Her work is very busy in the summer, but on the other hand it is much more relaxed in the winter.
3. 予算がないと言われているが、一方では予算がむだに使われている。
yosan ga nai to iwareteiru ga, ippou dewa yosan ga muda ni tsukawarete iru.
They say that there is no money, but on the other hand, the budget is being used wastefully.
4. いい親は厳しく叱る一方で、ほめることも忘れない。
ii oya wa kibishiku shikaru ippou de, homeru koto mo wasurenai.
A good parent knows how to scold the child strictly but also doesn’t forget to praise him.
