Meaning: far from; anything but; let alone; not to mention; much less ~
How to use:
Verb (casual, non-past) + どころか
Noun + どころか
な-adjective + (な) どころか
い-adjective + どころか
Example sentences:
1. 私は彼に役に立つどころか、迷惑もかけた。
watashi wa kare ni yaku ni tatsu dokoro ka, meiwaku mo kaketa.
I was far from being of any help to him. Rather I got in his way.
2. 暗いなかで見ると、絵は陽気な雰囲気どころか亡霊のように見えた。
kurai naka de miru to, e wa youki na fun’iki dokoro ka bourei no you ni mieta.
In the dark the paintings were more ghostly than cheerful.
3. 信じるどころか、そうなることを知ってるさ。
shinjiru dokoro ka, sou naru koto o shitteru sa.
I don’t just believe it, I know it will happen.
4. 忙しくて、休みをとるどころか、食事をする時間もない。
isogashikute, yasumi o toru dokoro ka, shokuji o suru jikan mo nai.
I’m so busy that I don’t even have time to eat, let alone taking a day off.
