How do you say “I will be late” in Japanese?
Osoku nari-masu.” : It will be slower
If I were you, I’ll add 済(す)みません “Sumimasen” or ごめんなさい “Gomen’nasai” (both mean Sorry) before or after the phrase above. Because Japanese people are usually very punctual.
If you want to tell how long you’d be late, you can add numbers like follows:
Gofun, osoku nari-masu.”
Juppun, osoku nari-masu.”
Juhgo-fun, osoku nari-masu.”
